Yesterday we celebrated Martin Luther Jr. Day remembering the life of a great man who did so much to make sure that all citizens of the United States could have equal rights. Obviously, Martin Luther King made mistakes; he was a flawed human being. But he was very intentional about most of his actions. He was purposeful in how he handled himself—especially in regard to the civil rights movement he was leading.
..What do you know about Martin Luther King Jr.—either from these videos or from your study of history—that reflects a high standard?
..How did Dr. King encourage his followers to put on behavior that imitated Jesus and put off other behavior?
..Think of some civic movements in the world today. How do you think the leaders and followers in these movements do at following a similar moral code? Think about the occupy movement taking place right now. Do these people represent Christ?
Think about your answers to these questions when we meet for synergy this week to discuss how we can be intentional about maintaining the highest moral code of all…What would Jesus do?
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us.
—Ephesians 5:1-2
